A large police deployment was carried out to find a young man after a call reported his abduction by hooded men near Val-d’Or, in Abitibi. But after police checks, the alleged “victim” – rather a future groom – had been taken in this way to his bachelor party.
Last Friday, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) patrol officers received an emergency call in the Val-d’Or sector.
A citizen reported that a kidnapping was in progress. He reported that several hooded men grabbed a young man and fled in a car.
SQ police officers responded immediately. Sections of road were blocked and police officers from neighbouring regional county municipalities (RCMs) were called in.
“The suspect vehicle was located by our police officers on Route 117 between the Louvicourt sector (Val-d’Or) and the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve,” the SQ said in a press release.
It was there that the absence of victim and crime was discovered.
The SQ did not issue a ticket, but wanted to raise awareness by issuing a press release entitled “A joke that could have had serious consequences”, with the aim of reminding the public to be careful, because this type of situation “can have considerable consequences and become out of proportion”.
