Kick-off of the 43rd Trans Musicales de Rennes against a backdrop of health concerns

The 43rd Trans Musicales, which will welcome tens of thousands of festival-goers for five days, opened on Wednesday December 1, 2021 in Rennes against a background of concerns related to the health situation. Avec the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers must be more vigilant than ever.

Despite everything, the Italian revelation Andrea Laszlo de Simone opened her orchestral pop concert at the Théâtre national de Bretagne with the opening act “Brieg Guerveno (who) enveloped the audience in his Breton folk pop”, tells Ouest France.

“These will be very special Trans Musicals but I think they will be great”, launched Jean-Louis Brossard, co-founder of the emblematic Rennes festival, during the opening night, in the presence of the mayor of Rennes Nathalie Appéré (PS). “I’ll be happy next Monday when it’s over!”, joked Jean-Louis Brossard, during an interview with AFP. “It’s really a special edition (..) There it starts, so I’m happy (…) but when it’s over, I’ll be able to breathe, and tell myself: it went well!”

For the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival finds its audience with a health pass and compulsory mask. “We hope that all the groups will arrive, because there have already been a lot of failures (…) It’s normal, we are in a period which is very difficult”, added Jean-Louis Brossard.

The prefect of Brittany Emmanuel Berthier appealed Tuesday, November 30 to the “festival-goers’ responsibility” to avoid the formation of a cluster during the festival. “It will be necessary to be masked, it will be necessary that each individual is really responsible for him and the others. It is the basis of life”, echoed the boss of the Trans. “Everything is planned so that people have a good Trans Musical, because the evenings are long, but it should go well! “. “The Trans are also taking care of people”, added Samia Djitli, president of the Trans Musicales association.

Four groups, out of the 85 from around the world, have already had to cancel their participation, including three for health reasons. “There must have been a group from South Africa and unfortunately they cannot leave, everything is blocked (…) So I asked a group from Rennes, if it could replace them (…) and they have done “, has explained Jean Louis Brossard. It is precisely the artist Alima Rolland who will be replaced by a solo by the choreographer Salim Msé Hamadi Moissi entitled The Expat at the Triangle on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 December. Australian punk rock band Amyl and the Sniffers will also be replaced by the electro trio of Finistère IA404 in Hall 8 this Friday 3 December.

On the musical side, the musician Yann Tiersen gives this Thursday, December 2 at midnight an exclusive concert at the Parc-expo in Rennes. Also on the program, the electro-pop project of S + C + A + R + R, Dj Pone who mixes rap and electro thanks to his scratching fingers or Jankev’s tropical nightclub.

This year, the festival expects to register 40,000 admissions, against 56,000 during the last public edition in 2019. Due to the pandemic, the Trans had been organized in digital format in 2020.
