Kick II / Kick III / Kick IIII, Arca

Experimental electronic composer Alejandra Ghersi had promised a sequel to Kick I (2020), the most accessible album from his fascinating discography. This one arrives with a bang: three discs, totaling 107 minutes of new compositions, just enough distinct to appreciate them separately at their true value. With its rhythmic patterns often inspired by reggaeton, Kick II bridges the gap with the previous one. We will be especially interested in the abundance of ideas populating Kick III, raw, visceral, musically expansive record, and Kick IIII, clearly softer, dominated by the sound of a mutant piano, where the Venezuelan deepens the play of texture, rhythm and atmosphere. This musical abundance seems necessary to her to explore the themes of the discovery of her femininity (Women, twisted industrial rap Señorita, invading and plaintive Lost woman found) and its transformation (Born yesterdaywith Sia, Intimate Flesh, Xenomorphgirl, Alien Inside with Shirley Manson), and we will thank him for it. This cycle Kick is nothing short of fascinating.
