The South Korean manufacturer Kia has unveiled the North American version of its completely redesigned Sportage 2023. Details are limited at this time, but a hybrid version will be offered, a strategy similar to that of its Hyundai cousin, the Tucson.
The compact SUV adopts a new stylistic language for 2023 seen as a world premiere a few months ago. It is much more complex than before, with boomerang headlights that blend into the grille, still in “tiger nose”. The stern is inevitably reminiscent of the EV6, this soon-to-be-market electric crossover with its two taillights linked at the ends by means of a line.
An X-Line version will make its entry with a presentation more focused on off-road, without tangible attributes allowing it to better negotiate with rough roads.
Employing the new N3 framework shared with the K5 sedan, it also grows, this Sportage. It is 18 cm longer than the one it replaces in addition to benefiting from an extended wheelbase of 8.6 cm.
On the mechanical side, only a 2.5 L four-cylinder has been confirmed, probably for entry-level versions, with 187 hp. It should also logically benefit from the Tucson’s hybrid engines built around turbocharged 1.6 L four-cylinders.
We will know more in the coming months as Kia Canada works to prepare for its arrival in the country.
