After a dam was destroyed near the Ukrainian city of Kherson, water engulfed entire neighborhoods. The population takes advantage of moments of calm in the fighting to evacuate.
Entire districts of Kherson (Ukraine) are submerged. The silence is only broken by the motors of the boats circulating at roof height. It’s a horrifying sight for Svetlana, who looks around for her house before finding it. “We only see the train“, she laments. In all, 1,700 people were evacuated from Kherson. Ukrainians help each other and organize themselves by prioritizing the elderly or disabled. Ukrainians were able to take advantage of the calm and the absence of artillery fire to be able to evacuate.
“They are trying to drown us”

Her friend remains totally incredulous in the face of the images. “They tried to destroy us with their bombs when they left town.
