On the morning of Tuesday March 1, an official building in Kharkiv (Ukraine) was hit by a Russian strike. Authorities said it was a cruise missile that was fired. The building disappeared under a cloud of dust. Inside, moments later, rescuers evacuated the victims in confusion and panic. In this city of 1.5 million inhabitants, the attack left at least 10 dead and more than 20 injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced a “war crime”. Ukrainian civilians are now holed up in shelters. Ekaterina Babenko, a resident of Kharkiv, testifies: “It is already the fifth day that we are here, in the basement. We are very worried, it is frightening. We have young children, elderly people. Frankly, we live in anguish.”
