American actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with four sexual assaults against three men, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on Thursday. “The CPS has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, on four counts of sexual assault against three men“Said Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS’s Special Crimes Division in a statement, AFP reports.
“He was also charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent.“, she added, specifying that these charges “follow a review of the evidence collected by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation”. The charges cover a period from March 2005 to April 2013. Two charges relate to facts of sexual assault on the same complainant in London in March 2005. Another sexual assault concerned a second complainant in August 2008, who was also involved in engaging in penetrative sexual activity without his consent.
Finally, Kevin Spacey is charged with a fourth sexual assault on a third complainant in April 2013 in Gloucestershire (south-west England). The London police had opened an investigation after receiving complaints of sexual assault against the actor, some of which were allegedly committed in the Lambeth district of London, where the Old Vic theater is located, of which he was artistic director between 2004 and 2015.
Kevin Spacey remains presumed innocent of the charges against him until the final judgment of this case.
