Kent Nagano, “Concertos for 2 and 3 pianos by Mozart and Poulenc”

This should delight Montreal admirers of the OSM’s musical director emeritus, Kent Nagano. It is above all the quintessence of the concept of “family affair”, since the soloists are his wife, Mari Kodama, his sister-in-law, Momo Kodama, and his daughter, Karin Kei Nagano, the latter holding the part of 1er piano in the Triple Concerto K. 242 of Mozart, while the Concerto for two pianos, K. 365, by Mozart and that of Poulenc, are performed by the Kodama sisters, a well-established duo, known in particular thanks to the magnificent CD of Tchaikovsky ballets from Pentatone. In Mozart, in terms of volumes, colors and elasticity, we are obviously the opposite of volume 11 of the complete Levin, on ancient instruments, commented on last December. We first remember the Poulenc, light and happy, which has a lot of punch, especially the 1er movement, taken at high speed. As we are no longer surprised by anything, we will not be surprised that the orchestra chosen is that of French-speaking Switzerland, the historic rival of the OSM.
