We know that a few teams have shown interest in Montreal Canadiens goalies, but if none of them have been traded yet, it would largely be because general manager Kent Hughes is very greedy.
“Teams that have a surplus of goalies… they know it,” Elliotte Friedman said Saturday evening on Hockey Night in Canada. They are very greedy, especially if there is salary deduction.
“Teams looking for goalies feel they are being extorted somewhat.”
Earlier this week, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that teams had contacted Hughes regarding veteran Jake Allen.
The Habs GM is currently doing well since at the Christmas break, his team is still in the playoff picture with a record of 15-13-5 despite a three-way goalie with Allen, Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
Montembeault is the one who shows the best statistics with a record of 7-4-3, a goals against average of 2.86 and an efficiency rate of .907. Primeau follows with a 4-3-0 record, a 3.20 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
Allen, for his part, is experiencing some problems as evidenced by his record of 4-6-2, his goals against average of 3.43 and his efficiency rate of .904. He nonetheless remains an interesting goaltender in the eyes of certain teams looking for a veteran who has seen snow in the National Hockey League.
