Kelly Meafua, rugby player at USM, was found dead on the banks of the Tarn

The USM is in mourning. This morning, a player of the professional team, Samoan third line Kelly Meafua, 32, died. His body was found lifeless on the banks of the Tarn.

According to the first elements, the Tarn-et-Garonne firefighters were alerted to the 6:40 a.m. shots to two individuals fell into the river at Pont-Vieux in the city center of Montauban. In all, a dozen firefighters divers were dispatched to the scene as well as a whitewater boat.

A rescued teammate

The French Dimitri Vaotoa, another professional player of the USM team, was quickly rescued. In a state of hypothermia, he was transported to the hospital center in a stable condition. Kelly Meafua’s body was found by firefighters around 9:15 a.m.

The Samoan third line wore the number 8 of the Union Sportive Montalbanaise this Friday evening during the victory against Narbonne at Sapiac (48-40).
