Even the National Hockey League’s Iron Man isn’t immune to viruses. Ailing Keith Yandle could see his streak end at 989 if he’s waived by head coach Mike Yeo on Saturday when the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The defender trained on the fourth pair on Friday but Yeo is yet to make a final decision on his formation.
“Obviously Keith was sick yesterday [jeudi], he missed training so I wanted to allow him to practice. I didn’t have the opportunity to talk to him to see how the training was today,” explained the pilot, adding that several of his men were injured or sick.
“I don’t want to speculate. [sur Yandle] until we make a decision,” Yeo explained. When dealing with any player, communication is important. I’m not sure what’s going to happen tomorrow, so I don’t want to get into that just yet.”
Yandle hasn’t missed a game since March 26, 2009, when he played for the Phoenix Coyotes. He set a record on January 25 by surpassing Doug Jarvis with a 965th straight duel.
The 35-year-old fullback is not having a very good season, like the Flyers. In 67 games, he has amassed just one goal and 14 assists for 15 points. Its differential of -39 is the worst of the entire Bettman circuit.
