Alberta singer-songwriter KD Lang will be inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame this year.
Organizers with the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) say Lang will be inducted into the prestigious space during a ceremony at Country Music Week, which takes place in Edmonton from September 11-14.
The singer who grew up in Consort, Alberta, joins previous inductees Rita MacNeil, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray and Terri Clark, among others.
Lang’s induction is planned at this year’s CCMA Awards, which will take place in Edmonton on September 14 and be broadcast on CTV. Representatives for the show, however, could not confirm whether Lang will be involved in the program.
The career of the interpreter Constant Craving and of Miss Chatelaine is considerable with accolades that include four Grammy Awards, nine Juno Awards, induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and appointment to the Order of Canada.
Lang said in a statement that she was “beyond thrilled and frankly pleasantly surprised” by her induction.
“My love for the Prairies, the people and our culture underlines every ounce of my inspiration. Not without complexities, I might add. Such is life,” she said.
“I am so happy to come to Edmonton to enjoy this celebration […] with the deepest gratitude.”
