Kayaker reported missing in Mauricie: police and firefighters have started a search

The Trois-Rivières police (DPTR) began searching Saturday morning to find a kayaker who has been missing for two days.

Pierre Couture, 65, launched his boat on Thursday around 1:30 p.m. at the Le Maïkan outdoor center, but never returned from his trip on the river.

“[Le sexagénaire] is a regular who practices kayaking regularly. He has the habit of paddling up to the height of the KI-8-EB golf club, on the Saint-Maurice River, and going back down to the island of La Potherie,” the authorities indicated, specifying that his disappearance was reported Friday evening.

After preliminary checks, the police began intensive searches along the Saint-Maurice River on Saturday morning while firefighters carried out checks on the water. Drones from Civil Security and the Fire Department, as well as a helicopter from the Sûreté du Québec, were also involved.

Pierre Couture is 1.85 m tall. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a wet suit, an orange long-sleeved sweater and an orange flotation vest. He was sailing aboard an EPIC V6 brand kayak.
