Karlovy Vary Festival to pay tribute to Viggo Mortensen

(Prague) The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic opened Friday with an honorary award for American actor and director Viggo Mortensen.


Mortensen, a three-time Oscar finalist for best actor, was to receive the festival’s President’s Award at Friday’s opening ceremony.

He was also due to present at the festival the second film he directed, The Dead Don’t Hurt (Till the end of the world).

Special guest of the Karlovy Vary festival, Oscar-winning director and producer Steve Soderbergh will present two films, Kafka And Mr Kneffin a Kafka retrospective.

This retrospective will present film adaptations of books by Franz Kafka on the occasion of the 100the anniversary of the death of the author born in Prague in 1883.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs until July 6. The grand jury, which includes Australian actor Geoffrey Rush, will view 12 films in competition to award the top prize, the Crystal Globe.
