Karl Tremblay (1976-2023) | The public square of L’Assomption will take the name of Karl Tremblay

L’Assomption, the town where Karl Tremblay lived, intends to pay a major tribute to the late singer. Not only is the City organizing a large gathering Thursday evening, but it will also name its public square Place Karl Tremblay.

The new nomenclature of the public square, which has existed for three years, will be made official in the coming weeks, indicated the mayor of L’Assomption, Sébastien Nadeau, in an interview with The Press.

“The council met and we are unanimous,” he said. The public square is a gathering place that Karl greatly appreciated. As it is primarily a cultural destination, this square will bear his name in the future. » Karl Tremblay’s widow, Marie-Annick Lépine, gave him her authorization.

“Karl was important to us personally, but to us as a community as well. He was a generous man, always available, says Sébastien Nadeau, also friend and business partner of Karl Tremblay (in the Randolph pubs). We saw it on ball fields, we saw it in our cafes. He was a full citizen. He never played star system, while being a huge star. » And Marie-Annick, he says, is the choir director of the choir of the Vieux Palais des enfants de L’Assomption.

Large gathering Thursday evening

After being the scene of a first spontaneous gathering on Wednesday evening, L’Assomption is preparing another larger gathering, Thursday evening at 7 p.m., at the public square which will bear the name of Karl Tremblay. Videos will be shown and music will be played. The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, has committed to producing a video tribute, while the mayor of Repentigny will be on site. Blue-collar workers are hard at work Thursday preparing for the event.

“It will be solemn and respectful, but we want it to feel like a party, because that’s what Karl loved,” explains Sébastien Nadeau.
