Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris apartment sold for $16.3 million

(Paris) The Parisian apartment of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, a futuristic three-room apartment measuring 260 m22 equipped with a wardrobe of more than 50 m2was sold for 10 million euros (11.1 million with fees; $16.3 million) on Tuesday at auction in Paris, announced the notary office responsible for this sale.


It was put up for sale at 5.3 million euros ($7.8 million), according to the Althemis study, which did not wish to give the identity and nationality of the buyer.

The sale followed several auctions on goods that belonged to the designer in 2021 and 2022. It took place at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as online and by telephone. The right of access was conditional on a deposit of 1.06 million euros ($1.6 million).

Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February 2019 and whose creations and shows for Chanel, Fendi and his own brand had a profound impact on the world of fashion, lived there for around ten years until his death.

Located in a 17th century buildinge century quai Voltaire, in the heart of historic Paris, with a view overlooking the Seine and the Louvre Museum, the apartment has been completely redone by the designer in a futuristic style with concrete on the floor and sections of sandblasted glass.

The main room of 120 m2 includes numerous backlit library shelves. Its sleeping area overlooking the courtyard has a bedroom with removable partitions, backed by a wardrobe of more than 50 m2.

This method of sale by auction before the chamber of notaries was decided by the Monegasque administrator responsible for the designer’s estate, who himself appointed one of his French counterparts, according to Althemis.
