After Paul Pogba, operated two days ago of the knee, and in period of convalescence, Didier Deschamps will perhaps have to do without Karim Benzema for the next two matches of the French team in the League of Nations, against the Austria (September 22) and Denmark (September 25). Hit in the thigh during Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Celtic Glasgow on Tuesday, September 6, Benzema could be out for two to three weeks.

The Madrid club communicated, Wednesday, September 7, on the seriousness of the injury of its striker: “After the examinations carried out on our player Karim Benzema (…), a semitendinosus muscle lesion as well as muscle overload, both in the quadriceps of the right leg, were diagnosed”.

The duration of Benzema’s absence is not specified in the press release but such a thigh injury usually results in an unavailability between ten days and three weeks. Benzema could therefore be back against Atlético de Madrid on September 18, in the best of cases, but also be too fair to join the France team whose rally will begin on September 19 (Didier Deschamps will reveal his list on September 15 ).

After the match against Celtic Glasgow yesterday, Carlo Ancelotti was reassuring about his player’s state of health. Benzema, huge favorite for the Ballon d’Or which will be awarded on October 17, will certainly have to decide at the end of the month between resting and rushing a return to competition, at the risk of a relapse just two months before the start of the season.
