The highest-ranked team in the country, Kansas was overwhelmed in the first half. Les Armanda Bacot, Caleb Love and Brady Manek were in full control of the game for North Carolina. Eighth seed in the eastern section, Michael Jordan’s alma mater had defeated Duke (2), UCLA (4), Baylor (1) and Marquette (9).
Their sublime journey seemed to be set to materialize, especially since second-year player Puff Johnson had also started to put his two cents in the beginning of the second half.
However, Kansas wasn’t the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Division for nothing. The David McCormack, Remy Martin and Ochai Agbaji started to play as a team and open the machine.
Unfortunately, Bacot and Johnson were injured late in the game and had to finish the game on the bench for North Carolina.
Without dominating too much, the Jayhawks scored 47 points in the second half and protected their slender lead until the very end. They pulled off the biggest comeback in March Madness history to win the title.
This is the fourth national championship in the team’s history.
