It is the fourth title in Jayhawks history, the first since 2008.
The winners, however, had to work hard to overcome their opponents. At halftime, they trailed 40-25. However, they caught up just before halfway through the second half, giving way to a final-like finish.
It was true teamwork by the Jayhawks, as five players broke the 10-point barrier. Jalen Wilson and David McCormack were the most productive, with 15 points. The latter also completed a double-double, with 10 rebounds. Christian Braun accomplished the same feat as his teammate, with 12 points and as many rebounds.
Five athletes have also crossed the 10-point mark in the Tar Heels camp. RJ Davis and Armando Bacot tried everything with 15 points each, but to no avail. The two completed a double-double, respectively with 12 and 15 rebounds. Brady Manek imitated his teammates with 13 points and as many rebounds.
The Jayhawks thus succeed the Baylor Bears, who took the honors of March Madness in 2021.
