(Kansas City) Right-hander Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms on a three-year, $45 million contract, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who reported the information to the Associated Press. Tuesday.
Lugo would have an escape clause after the 2025 season, added the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal is contingent on physical tests.
Lugo is coming off a good season with the San Diego Padres, finishing with an 8-7 record and a 3.57 ERA, showing he could be a starting pitcher.
The 34-year-old athlete chose not to take advantage of his option year with the Padres for next season, and became a free agent.
The Royals have looked to improve their rotation on the mound in recent seasons. They greatly helped their cause by acquiring Cole Ragans from the Texas Rangers last season. The team is also hoping to see Brady Singer bounce back after a rough season.
