A Coming Change in US Policy on Gaza? Kamala Harris Promises Not to Stay “silent” in the face of civilian suffering on Thursday, July 25, insisting on the need to conclude a peace agreement without delay. Far from the habits of outgoing President Joe Biden, who favors behind-the-scenes pressure with Israel, the Vice President declared, after meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, that it was time to put an end to the war “devastating” in the Middle East.

“What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating”she said, referring to the “dead children” and the “desperate and hungry people fleeing for safety”. “We cannot turn away from these tragedies. We cannot afford to become numb to the suffering and I will not remain silent.”she added to the press.

The former senator, who is in the race for the White House after Joe Biden’s withdrawal, explained that she had stressed to the Israeli Prime Minister the disastrous situation in Gaza during a meeting described as “frank”She asked him to reach a ceasefire agreement and release of hostages with Hamas. Kamala Harris also called for the creation of a Palestinian state, which the Israeli Prime Minister opposes. “There will be no truce, Madam Candidate”Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir retorted on Friday morning on X.

Kamala Harris’ speech contrasts with the image of great cordiality displayed by Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the day on Thursday, even though the two men have notoriously complicated relations. The American president also called on Benjamin Netanyahu to “finalize” the ceasefire agreement to allow “bring the hostages home” and of “put a lasting end to the war”.
