There are 75 days left until the presidential election. On Thursday, August 22, the last day of the Democratic convention in Chicago, Kamala Harris will accept the nomination. Portrait.
In one month, she took the reins of the Democratic Party to become the official presidential candidate. Born to an Indian scientist mother and a Jamaican economics professor father, she became prosecutor of San Francisco and then California in 2003 and senator in 2017. Joe Biden chose her in 2020 to be his vice president. The elected official struggled to impose her brand, inherited complex files such as immigration, but returned to the forefront to defend the right to abortion.
Of his program, we know only a few economic measures in favor of the middle class. “Kamala Harris is part of the center-left. (…) Of course she will support NATO, Ukraine and Israel, but she will also insist on a ceasefire in Gaza.”explains journalist Daniel Morain. On the evening of August 22, she will give her inaugural speech in front of more than 20,000 people and will have to convince Americans that she is the best choice to make for the November 5 election.
Daniel Morain: journalist for the Sacramento Bee then for the Los Angeles Times. He followed Kamala Harris for a long time when she was a prosecutor. He published a book about her, Kamala’s Way. He also covered the Capitol. Today he is a freelance journalist.
