US Vice President Kamala Harris said “proud to have gained the broad support needed to become the party’s candidate” Democrat to replace Joe Biden, in a message posted on X, Monday July 22.
According to US media, a majority of Democratic delegates – 4,000 people responsible for officially nominating the party’s candidate – have already announced their intention to support her. “The vice president now has the support of far more than the 1,976 pledged delegates she will need to win the nomination on the first ballot.”CNN points out.
“I look forward to formally accepting this appointment soon.”Kamala Harris added in her statement, adding that in the coming months, she “would travel the country to talk to Americans about everything that is at stake” through this election.
