Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the American presidential election, chose the name of her running mate on Tuesday, August 6, according to the American press agency. APHer choice fell on Tim Walz, the 60-year-old governor of the state of Minnesota, who will begin with her a multi-day tour of key states for the election.
The man who would become Kamala Harris’ vice president if she were elected on November 5 against Donald Trump will be present for a first meeting in tandem on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They will then continue with several other pivotal states between now and Saturday for a tour that should set the tone for their understanding and their complementarity.
Tim Walz has a reputation as a skilled and good manager who could appeal to rural, white voters. The former high school teacher and military officer also has the advantage of knowing Washington well. He served in Congress for 12 years, representing a traditionally Republican constituency.
In mid-July, a few days after being the victim of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump chose as his running mate JD Vance, a 40-year-old senator from Ohio, another industrial state in the northeast. But the latter has been embroiled in controversy, proving for the moment to be more of a thorn in his side than an asset.
