In the United States, the Democratic presidential candidate’s clothing choices are being scrutinized.
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ suit comes in several colors. This choice of clothing is not insignificant, in a country where the appearance of candidates is scrutinized. The wardrobe can thus become a tool to convey a message. At her party convention, the Democratic candidate wore an outfit, a beige suit, that caused a reaction on social networks.
Internet users saw it as a reference to a similar suit worn by Barack Obama in 2014. The color, deemed inappropriate, had caused controversy among Republicans. In 2020, Kamala Harris appeared all dressed in white, in homage to American suffragettes, like Hillary Clinton in 2016. Sometimes, her outfits are more classic. “She has moved beyond the framework of questioning her appearance and that is rather progress”assures Olivier Piton, author of Kamala Harris, America’s Pioneer.
