Kad Merad still upset by his father’s last call, before dying

Kad Merad’s dad – Mohamed Rémy Merad, “said the Italian” – passed away in October 2021, “after having courageously fought against illness” as explained at the time by Midi Libre. This November 17, 2023, Julia Vignali’s husband returned to her disappearance, while Mouloud Achour received him with Olivier Baroux, in “Clique”.

“It was the last image he had of his son

Came to talk about their new series on Canal +, “Pamela Rose, the series”Kad Merad explained that his father left him while he was filming another one, “the torch”, with Jonathan Cohen. And to confide: “The last image my father had of me on Facetime was as Flambeau. I called my father who was leaving and he saw me like that as Patoche. He laughed but it makes me weird to tell me that this is the last image he had of his son. That’s very intimate stuff that I’m telling you here.”

Next to him, on the set, Olivier Baroux assured him, with compassion: “It’s a nice gift, it made him laugh, last image he had of you, he smiled”. And Mr. Merad was a man he knew well. Since the 90s, the two members of KDO have never let go of each other, and Olivier Baroux was even in the front row to applaud Kad Merad when he hosted the 44th César ceremony, in 2019.

That year, Olivier also received the Audience Award, which rewards the film which has the greatest number of entries for “Keys 3”. And to give it to him, his best friend’s dad: had arrived on stage to kiss him!

I was so happy he came.”

A sequence that Mouloud Achour showed the duo, and Kad commented: “I was so happy that he came, I remember he asked me for a little Ricard backstage. There was my mother in the room, it was a beautiful moment. I’m happy to see him even if I’m still very moved, between the story with Olivier and my father now”.
