Kad Merad moved in “Daily” by evoking the relations that have become complicated with his Algerian family since the death of his dad…

On September 14, Honorary Citizen by Mohamed Hamidi (director of The Cow and A Beautiful Team) will be released in theaters. This comedy which evokes Algeria, is carried by the great Kad Merad, who was also, on this occasion, the guest of Daily this Wednesday.

“My mother is from Berry and my father is Algerian. They met in France. Very quickly, they left to open a hairdressing salon in Algeria but, for my mother, they returned after two years. I was born during this parenthesis while my three brothers and sisters were born in France. But we have all, and always, been connected with this country”began to tell the actor facing Yann Barthès.

“We also talk about today’s Algeria with this youth in the street (…) Demonstrations made in calm, silence, in the end, they clean everything, it was strong. But this Algeria we tells it (…) we say that there is a youth, a passion”, continued the main interested party. Before making a nice statement to the Algerian people: “I love the Algerians, they are a people who are silent, modest”.

However, it was emotion that ended up winning over Julia Vignali’s companion on set, especially when he spoke of his difficult relations today with this paternal family who lives on the other side of the Mediterranean: “I have my aunts, my uncles, I have nephews, cousins, I never see them. I saw them a lot with my dad, who left us… It was my link with Algeria my father That’s why I’m a little sad when I imagine that he couldn’t see this film because inevitably it can only speak to him, make him happy. This film is for my father eventually, somewhere.”

Remy Merad, Kad’s dad, recently died in Beauvoisin, near Nîmes, after battling illness.
