Game Highlights: A Turnaround in the Second Period
The Red Jackets started strong with more puck possession, but were unable to convert early opportunities into goals. The Black Wings took advantage of this and scored first. However, the Klagenfurters quickly turned the tide, finding the net twice in just 109 seconds. Thomas Hundertpfund assisted Raphael Herburger for the equalizer with a slick backhand shot, and shortly after, Finn van Ee scored with a precise shot that caught goalie Rasmus Tirronen off guard.
The second period saw KAC extend their lead with Mathias From’s impressive play, allowing Raphael Herburger to score a goal that slipped under Tirronen’s arm. Despite a brief counterattack from Linz, KAC maintained their defensive strength. The Upper Austrians managed to score, but KAC’s solid defense kept them at bay for most of the period.
In the third period, the Red Jackets showcased their defense while creating multiple scoring chances. A near miss from KAC captain Herburger and a crucial save by Sebastian Dahm highlighted the intense back-and-forth. The final blow came when Mathias From sealed the victory by scoring into an empty net just 21 seconds before the final buzzer.
Coach Kirk Furey praised the team’s effort, noting, “We anticipated a challenging game. It was crucial for us to stick to our game plan, and we executed it well. This performance was a solid playoff showing, and we aim to build on it for Sunday.”
Looking ahead, KAC forward Mathias From emphasized the importance of the next home game, stating, “Game three is vital. We regained home advantage, and we plan to capitalize on that. We know we can and will come out strong against Linz this Sunday at 5:30 PM.”
