There will be no clash between the two big names in the Europa League. If Juventus validated their ticket for the semi-finals by taking the shock against Sporting (1-1 after the 1-0 success in the first leg), Manchester United completely sank against Sevilla (0-3 after the draw 2-2 one way), Thursday 20 April. Erik ten Hag’s players were severely jostled by a team used to shining in the competition, conceding a first goal very quickly by Youssef En-Nesyri (8th) who offered himself a double at the end of the match (81st). The defender on loan from Rennes, Loïc Badé, also went there with his goal (47th).
Still a scorer on Thursday, Adrien Rabiot allowed the Old Lady to narrowly extricate themselves from the trap set by Sporting at home. Without shining, the Piedmontese took advantage of the Portuguese inefficiency and will therefore face the Andalusian club in the next round, on May 11 and 18. Good news in addition to the suspension of their withdrawal of 15 points in the league, announced a few hours earlier.
Quiet Leverkusen, AS Roma narrowly
In the other part of the table, Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma each obtained a wide success, inflicting a 4-1 on their respective opponents. The Germans, held in check in the first leg (1-1) by the Belgians of Union Saint-Gilloise, made their entry task easier by opening the score in the second minute by the French international Moussa Diaby, before unrolling.
For the Romans, the score is identical but the scenario is quite different. Beaten in the first leg by Feyenoord Rotterdam (1-0), the Giallorossi flirted with elimination because of a late equalizer from Paixao. But, Paulo Dybala went through it, giving the Romans extra time in the 89th minute. In eight minutes, Stephan El Shaarawy (101st) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (109th) extinguished the last Dutch inclinations, and made an indirect gift to France, in the fight with the Netherlands for fifth place in the UEFA index.
