The goal seemed to have become unattainable, but Juventus may be able to play in the Champions League next season. Sanctioned with a withdrawal of fifteen points by the Italian sports justice in January, because of accounting fraud on player transfers between 2018 and 2021, the Turin club saw this sanction suspended on Thursday April 20. The guarantee college of the Italian Olympic Committee (Coni) studied the request for cancellation of the club 36 times champion of Serie A and asked that the sanction be “reassessed”.
Italian justice had estimated three months ago that the “Old Lady” had overvalued capital gains. Fifteen points had therefore been withdrawn from Juventus, which had then fallen from 3rd place in the Italian championship to 10th. Despite the importance of the sanction, received in the middle of a season that was off to a bad start, Massimiliano Allegri’s team had chained good results, until they returned to the race for qualification for a European Cup.
By temporarily recovering its fifteen points, the Turin club regains its third place, just two points behind Lazio Rome (2nd). Good news that comes after the two defeats in a row suffered in the league, which Juve had not yet experienced this season. From now on, the club can again dream of the European Cup, provided that the new judgment of the Court of Appeal of the Italian Federation is favorable to it.
This decision slides AS Roma to fourth place, expelling qualifying places in the Champions League AC Milan, which has just qualified for the semi-finals of the competition.
