Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will not attend the United Nations climate change conference which begins next week. Instead, Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault will lead the Canadian delegation.

From November 6 to 18, 190 other countries will meet in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to coordinate efforts to fight climate change.
“In Egypt, we will continue to push to accelerate concrete climate actions to reduce emissions and increase the resilience of communities and economies as the whole world is affected by the impacts of climate change,” said the President. Minister Guilbeault in a press release.

Last year, Justin Trudeau participated in person at COP26, which was held in Glasgow, UK. Canada then committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 45% below 2005 levels by 2030, in order to comply with the Paris Agreement.
From December 7 to 19, Montreal will host the United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity, COP15.
