Justin Trudeau will nominate Mary Moreau to the Supreme Court

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday the appointment of Mary Moreau to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mary Moreau, who has been chief judge of the court of the King of Alberta since 2017, was a member of the advisory committee on the conduct of judges and chaired bilingual trials, according to an official biography.

The Supreme Court seat has been vacant since Russell Brown announced his retirement in June, ending a Canadian Judicial Council investigation into an allegation of misconduct.

The council examined the allegations of an event in January in Arizona, during which Judge Brown had been accused of being in intoxication and of having harassed a group of individuals, which he denies.
