(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants to make obtaining temporary visas easier for applicants. He wants the migration system to be less concerned about the risks of a visitor staying in the country past the expiry date of this document.
During a meeting with nursing students from Algonquin College in Ottawa on Friday, some mentioned to Mr. Trudeau some problems with visas.
He defended himself against critics complaining that relatives of foreign students could not obtain temporary visas by saying that his government was trying to change the mentality of the Ministry of Immigration.
Mr. Trudeau rails against officials who seem more concerned about the possibility that a visa applicant decides to stay in the country beyond the deadline. This attitude prevents people from coming to the country.
The Prime Minister added that the government must ensure that Canadians have confidence in the immigration system, otherwise they could be carried by the anti-immigration wave that is sweeping the world.
According to him, we must ensure that families who immigrate to the country will be able to find housing. To achieve this, we must encourage people with construction experience to come and settle in Canada.
The Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship has often been criticized for delays in processing temporary visa applications, particularly for VIPs attending international conferences.
