Justin Trudeau spoke with King Charles for the first time since his diagnosis

(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and King Charles III spoke Wednesday for the first time since the sovereign’s cancer diagnosis.

The royal family says King Charles held an audience with the Canadian prime minister via video link from Buckingham Palace.

The palace announced a month ago that the king was canceling public engagements until further notice while he undergoes treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.

British media reported last December that King Charles III and Queen Camilla were planning to visit Canada next May, although this information was never confirmed by the palace or Ottawa.

Following the announcement of the king’s cancer diagnosis, the Canadian government declared that Charles III was not planning a royal tour.

King Charles has not visited Canada since acceding to the throne in September 2022, although he has already made 16 official visits to Canada as Prince of Wales and eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II.
