The Prime Minister’s Office has indicated that they will return to the same place where they stayed during the 2019 Christmas holidays. The family pays for the accommodation.

Mr. Trudeau must fly on a Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft for security reasons, even if the trip is private. On their last trip to Costa Rica, the theft cost taxpayers about $57,000. Expenses were added for the crew who had to stay in San José.

The firm says it has consulted the Federal Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner.

In 2017, the commissioner ruled that Mr. Trudeau had violated the rules on conflicts of interest by going to spend his vacation the previous year on a private island belonging to Aga Khan in the Bahamas.

The cabinet says that Mr. Trudeau stays informed of what is happening in the country while he is abroad.
