American Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in overtime against fellow American Will Zalatoris on Sunday.
This is the second PGA Championship title for Thomas. He also achieved the feat in 2017. He was crowned PGA Tour Tournament Champion for the 15th time.
He won after the obligatory three overtime shots. Both players birdied on the first hole. Thomas gave himself a one-shot priority on the second hole by completing another birdie. Zalatoris settled for par on the pennant.
At the final hole, Thomas again managed a birdie, which confirmed his victory.
However, this victory seemed unlikely at the end of the tournament.
Chilean Mito Pereira, who was in the lead before playing the 18th pennant, collapsed under the pressure and sent his ball into the water. He therefore played a double bogey which allowed Thomas and Zalatoris to go into overtime.
He went 75 (plus-5) in the final round and saw his three-stroke lead going into the final round melt away as the day progressed.
American Cameron Young tied for third with Pereira one stroke behind the leaders.
England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick and American Chris Kirk finished two shots behind the tournament in 277 shots (minus-3). Two-time PGA Championship champion Rory McIlroy followed in eighth at 2 under.
