From unauthorized TB drug trials by the National Medicines Safety Agency have indeed been carried out at the University Hospital Institute (IHU) in Marseille. Public Assistance – Marseille Hospitals (AP-HM) confirmed this Wednesday evening the information released by Médiapart on October 22. Medicines Agency announced to open an inspection within the IHU of Marseille and seize the public prosecutor.
Medical complications for patients
Following an internal investigation, the AP-HM confirms that several patients with tuberculosis have been treated with combination of 4 drugs. Some of these patients have had severe kidney complications caused by this treatment. Including one who had to be operated. The hospitals of Marseille assume to have filed a research protocol on this combination of antibiotics. But ensure that they withdrew it when it was banned by the Medicines Agency. The only person responsible for them is the one who carried out the test. Namely the IHU under the direction of Didier Raoult. The Marseille professor denounces a violation of medical confidentiality which he qualifies as “contrary to all ethical rules.” This case will not stop there: the hospitals of Marseille are continuing their internal investigation.
