The Grenoble administrative court rejected on Tuesday October 24 the appeal of six environmental defense associations opposed to marmot hunting in Savoie, reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.
The associations (Justice Animaux Savoie, ASPAS, Animal Cross, AVES, FNE Savoie and One Voice) filed a lawsuit on Thursday October 19 in court to suspend the decree of the prefecture of Savoie authorizing marmot hunting in September to November. The judges therefore rejected their request.
“The judge considered that there is no urgency to suspend the execution of the order because the conservation status of the species does not justify this suspension”, explains Coline Robert, the association’s lawyer. The Administrative Court must now rule on the merits of the appeal. A hearing is expected to be scheduled in the coming months.
