Justice orders trial for six relatives including his brother Mathias

Two investigating judges have ordered a trial for six people close to Paul Pogba, including his brother Mathias, franceinfo learned on Tuesday, September 10, from a source close to the case, confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office. These six men are being referred to the Paris Criminal Court after a two-year investigation into the kidnapping and extortion of the French international footballer in 2022.

Five of his people are suspected of having “organized” a meeting in the suburbs of Paris on March 19, 2022, during which the player was kidnapped and robbed by two unidentified men who demanded 13 million euros from him. Mathias Pogba, the player’s brother, is suspected of having provided “active assistance” to convince Paul Pogba to pay the robbers. He did not participate in the kidnapping.

In their order, which franceinfo was able to consult, a 44-page document, the two judges consider that it “it was not, as some of those charged have been able to maintain, a simple ‘friendly’ meeting to dot the ‘i’s or to ‘set the record straight’ but rather facts falling under criminal law”.

Until the trial, the two investigating judges ordered that the man placed in pretrial detention remain in that position and that the five others, including Mathias Pogba, remain under judicial supervision. These six men can appeal this decision by the investigating judges. The Paris prosecutor’s office specifies that these six people risk between five and ten years in prison.
