The Castres public prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday, August 14, that it was investigating a fire that broke out during the night from Monday to Tuesday on land in Tarn occupied by opponents of the A69 motorway. “An investigation is underway into acts of damage caused by fire”the public prosecutor, Elodie Buguel, told AFP. These activists, installed on private land in the commune of Saïx to express their opposition to the future Toulouse-Castres motorway and to try to block the construction site, claimed for their part to have “suffered attempted murder and irresponsible arson”.
In a press release from the ZAD, the zone to defend set up by opponents of the A69, they declare having been victims of three attackers who notably threatened with “an object, probably a knife” an activist, before“spray with gasoline” a second person, as well as a tent and a vehicle, and “set fire to the beds”.
At this stage of the investigation, “subject to the elements” what the current hearings could bring, “There was no report of a knife attack”noted Elodie Buguel.
