An investigation was opened in Nanterre after the government’s report on the private group Orpea, manager of Ehpad, suspected of institutional abuse and embezzlement of public funds, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office announced to AFP on Thursday April 28.

A report had been sent on March 28 to the public prosecutor’s office, after an administrative investigation, carried out by the State, revealed “serious malfunctions” in the management of the group’s nursing homes. This judicial inquiry was joined to investigations already underway, since February, to “forgery and use of forgery, and breach of labor legislation by misuse of fixed-term contracts”said the prosecution.

The Orpea group, in turmoil since the release of a book-investigation, also made public on Tuesday the first conclusions of an external audit confirming dysfunctions, in particular in its use of public funds. The investigations, which cover the period 2019 to 2021, “lead to identifying the existence of discounts, rebates and rebates granted, including by suppliers of products financed from public funds”indicate the mandated audit firms.
