After the acquittal of the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, by the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR), Wednesday November 29, in a trial for illegal taking of interests, political reactions from all sides have multiplied.

“A political decision”, reacts La France insoumise

“It is clearly a political decision taken in the midst of a biased jurisdiction”reacts on franceinfo LFI MEP Manon Aubry. “In the 30 years of exercise of the Court of Justice of the Republic and of existence, there has never been a conviction of penalties [de prison ferme] since it existed”, she denounced. She claims “that it must be deleted” and continues: “I am worried about the lack of trust that it may imply, and the feeling of two-tiered justice which is unbearable for the citizens who listen to us.”

It is “an arm of honor to the idea of justice”added LFI deputy Ugo Bernalicis to the press at the National Assembly, proof according to him that the CJR “serves no purpose other than clearing ministers”. He asked the prosecution to “seize the Court of Cassation”the only avenue of appeal, due to lack of an appeal procedure before this jurisdiction.

“He must still resign”, believes the RN

The acquittal of Eric Dupond-Moretti “is a court decision, we accept it as such and we do not have to comment on it”, reacted on franceinfo Laurent Jacobelli, spokesperson for the National Rally. Despite everything, he believes that “Eric Dupond-Moretti must still resign, even if he is not found guilty of illegal taking of interests because he is guilty of incompetence.”

For Laurent Jacobelli, “Eric Dupond-Moretti is an anomaly in the government. He is a man who does not support democracy. It is a democratic incongruity and he has no place in a government of the Republic.”

Thomas Ménage, another spokesperson for the National Rally, declared “respect this decision”but he adds that the Keeper of the Seals “is still politically guilty of the situation of insecurity in the country, of laxity” And “should leave his place to a minister who really wants to fight against insecurity, put in place a policy of firmness in criminal matters.”

“Justice has spoken”, rejoices the presidential majority

“Justice has spoken. Today, it has recognized and confirmed the innocence of Eric Dupond-Moretti”, rejoices Benjamin Haddad, Renaissance deputy for Paris and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, on franceinfo. Faced with the reaction of La France insoumise, which calls for the abolition of the Court of Justice of the Republic, the Renaissance deputy responds: “once again, La France insoumise calls into question the institutions of the Republic. LFI constantly calls into question the legitimacy of the institutions. Can you imagine if the verdict had been different? All of this makes no sense and it is profoundly irresponsible. “

“The Court of Justice of the Republic has rendered its decision and acquitted Eric Dupond-Moretti. The Minister of Justice will be able to continue to carry out his action within the government team, in the service of the French. I am delighted”, reacted Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, on the social network X (formerly Twitter). For his part, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron received Eric Dupond-Moretti at the Elysée, following his acquittal.
