The judges of the Paris administrative court confirmed on Saturday July 15 the ban on a demonstration against police violence planned for the afternoon at Place de la République, said the lawyer for the organizers and the police headquarters.

“Such a decision leaves a bitter taste of incomprehension among the organizers, feeling muzzled in their most fundamental right of expression”, reacted Me Lucie Simon on behalf of the National Coordination against police violence, made up of around fifty organizations including LFI, EELV and the CGT. Requested by AFP, the police headquarters “take note” of the court decision and “reminds that the demonstration is prohibited”.

A ban announced Wednesday by Gérald Darmanin

Gérald Darmanin announced on Wednesday the banning of this demonstration against police violence. “Any demonstration directly linked to the riots must be prohibited and proposed for other later dates” until Saturday. “For the sake of balance”a demonstration by police in support of their colleague from Nanterre, indicted for “intentional homicide” after the death of Nahel, was also banned.

Despite the ban from the police headquarters, about 2,000 people gathered on July 8, in memory of Adama Traoré, who died shortly after his arrest by the gendarmes in July 2016. The rally was marked by the muscular arrest of Youssouf, brother of Adama Traoré, whom the police accuse of having “hit” to a commissioner.
