German tennis player Boris Becker has just spent his first night in prison. On April 29, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, found guilty of having hidden nearly 3 million euros in order to avoid paying debts.
The former tennis champion arrived as a free man with his companion in front of a London court (United Kingdom). Boris Becker appears for having concealed three million euros after a personal bankruptcy. The court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison with immediate imprisonment. It is in a van that the 54-year-old man leaves the court.
In Germany, it’s a shock. The television news make their headlines on the downfall of their former icon and the reactions are harsh. “It’s because he’s famous, he’s a citizen of Germany and he’s a legend that he should have played by the rules”thinks a German woman. “In the end, he’s just a poor guy”continues a man. The former world number one spent the night in a prison in the suburbs of London. It’s the descent into hell for Boris Becker. In 1985, at age 17, he became the youngest player in the world to lift a Grand Slam trophy. He then continues the setbacks: excessive alcohol, drugs, divorce, depression and financial mismanagement.
