The Queen is back on her throne. After two years off, Simone Biles made a dazzling comeback during the gymnastics world championships in Antwerp (Belgium). Two days after the team title, the American was crowned in the individual all-around competition, Friday October 6. By beating the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, title holder, and her compatriot Shilese Jones, she put her hands back on the crown that she had given up in 2021.

The gymnast resumes her frantic race towards records, one after the other. She is now the only gymnast with six world titles in the individual all-around (she equals the record set among men by Kohei Uchimura). In total, this is his 21st career world title and his 34th international medal, world championships and Olympic Games combined. Which makes her the most decorated gymnast in the history of the discipline ahead of Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo.

Big favorite ten months before Paris 2024

His record could be further enhanced with the apparatus finals on Saturday and Sunday. His confidence seems fully regained, like the “Yurchenko double pike” achieved during the vault qualifications on October 1st. She is the first woman to have achieved this figure in competition.

Simone Biles returned to the Worlds for the first time since 2019. In the meantime, she had withdrawn from certain events during the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games for mental health reasons. The native of Columbus, Ohio had then explained suffering from “twisties”, loss of bearings in space exposing athletes to the risk of injury upon landing. Ten months before Paris 2024, the student of French coaches Cécile and Laurent Landi once again establishes herself as the big favorite in the individual all-around competition that she won in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
