The actor Jussie Smollett has already been released from prison! The star of the program Empire was escorted out of a Chicago detention center on Wednesday, March 16. Jussie was seen leaving the venue while wearing a black T-shirt and a sanitary mask. He was escorted by his friends, family and bodyguards.
Jussie Smollett can consider himself lucky to be released so quickly from prison, he who was sentenced to serve half of his 150-day sentence last week. An appeals court had ruled earlier in the day that the comedian could be released after serving only 6 of his 150 days in prison to which he had been sentenced. As a reminder, he had been convicted of having orchestrated a false attack in 2019. He had declared that he had been beaten while he was being hurled racist and homophobic insults. His two accomplices had finally backtracked and testified against him during the trial.
The Court had decided that Jussie Smollett could leave by posting a bond of 150,000 dollars, but the actor preferred to appear in Court to defend his case with the help of his lawyers and obtain a release without payment of money. The lawyers explained that an appeal trial would be too long compared to the 150 days in prison required for the actor and that the latter was particularly in danger within the prison itself.
The star, however, had not obtained the favors of the judge last week who had called him “deeply arrogant, selfish and narcissistic.“Carried away in his anger, the actor then declared in court:”I’m not suicidal, if I did this it’s to put a punch to the fear of black people for 400 years (…) If something happens to me while I’m going to prison, you have to understand that I didn’t do it for me. I’m not suicidal, I’m innocent!“
