Jury begins deliberation at Kevin Spacey sexual assault trial

Jurors in the Kevin Spacey sexual assault trial retired to begin deliberations on Monday on allegations made by four men against the American actor.

They adjourned their work after two and a half hours, having failed to reach a verdict.

Spacey, 63, pleaded not guilty to nine counts, including several counts of sexual assault and one count of inciting a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent.

The case comes before the jury about a month after the nine men and three women took their places at Southwark Crown Court.

Spacey’s defense attorney argued in closing arguments last week that three of the men were liars and suggested jurors not convict him of making a “clumsy pass” at a fourth man.

The prosecutor claimed that Spacey was a “sex bully”, who took advantage of his power as a major celebrity and took what he wanted when he wanted it.

The alleged acts, which occurred between 2001 and 2013, range from unwanted touching to aggressive crotch grabbing. In one instance, a man accuses Spacey of performing oral sex on him when he was unconscious.
