“Die? I don’t care at all.” In an interview with the British daily The Guardianactor Sam Neill, 75, known for his role as Professor Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, revealed Friday, March 17, to be treated for blood cancer for a year. After a first chemotherapy that did not work, a new chemotherapy treatment “very expensive” which he receives doses every month and which he will have to follow for the rest of his life, was offered to him. “I’m not off the hook as such, but there’s no cancer in my body”he says.

Asked about the release of his book Did I Ever Tell You This?the actor recounts his entire journey and his fight against illness. “I can’t pretend that the last year didn’t have some dark moments”he acknowledges in the Guardian, “but those dark times shine a light and made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. I’m happy to be alive.”

However, he claims not to have “fear of dying”in this long interview conducted on his New Zealand farm. “But that would bother me, because I would really like to have another decade or two, you know. We’ve built all these beautiful terraces, we’ve got olive trees and cypress trees, and I want to be there to see it all happen to maturity”. He also thinks of his “adorable grandchildren”that he wants “to see grow”.
