Juno Awards Gala | Canada’s role in 50 years of hip-hop will be celebrated

(Toronto) The contributions of Canadian artists to 50 years of hip-hop will be highlighted at this year’s Juno Awards.


Toronto rappers Kardinal Offishall and Haviah Mighty will guide viewers through this tribute to Canada’s place in this musical genre.

The issue will include guest appearances from Choclair, known for his song let’s ride ; Maestro Fresh Wes, behind the success Let Your Backbone Slideand the duo Dream Warriors, who rose to fame with their hit My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style.

Other artists are expected to attend, including hip-hop pioneers Michie Mee and DJ Mel Boogie.

The event will be written and produced by Kardinal and Joanne Gairy, a Toronto actress and hip-hop poet known as Jemeni.

The Juno Awards Gala will take place March 13 at Rogers Place in Edmonton and will be broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem.

Singer Avril Lavigne, who is up for five awards this year, will be among the presenters, alongside artist Lauren Spencer Smith.

Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees Nickelback will be celebrated, including Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and actor Ryan Reynolds, who will make a virtual whirlwind appearance.
