Juno Award | Charlotte Cardin among the favorites of the evening

(Halifax) The great celebration of Canadian music is celebrated on Sunday when singer Nelly Furtado will host the 2024 Juno Awards gala in the evening in Halifax, Nova Scotia.


The singer-songwriter and performer of the song I’m Like a Bird will also take the stage to sing.

The Juno Awards Gala will take place at the Scotiabank Center Amphitheater in downtown Halifax and will be broadcast live by public broadcaster CBC.

The event, which celebrates the successes of the Canadian music sector over the past year, includes musical performances by Toronto group The Beaches, country star Josh Ross and rapper and producer Maestro Fresh Wes, inducted into the Music Hall of Fame Canadian.

Charlotte Cardin and Daniel Caesar are among the favorite artists nominated this year, notably in the categories for Album of the Year and the Juno People’s Choice Award.

Charlotte Cardin is nominated in six categories.

Several prizes were awarded the day before the grand gala, including that of pop album of the year to Charlotte Cardin for her album 99 Nights.

The Quebec group Les Cowboys Fringants received the prize for best French-speaking album, the one with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. This is a first for the group in more than 20 years of career, which arrives four months after the death of the group’s singer Karl Tremblay, at the age of 47, shaking Quebec.

Montreal band Cryptopsy won the metal/hard album of the year award for Ace Gomorrah Burns and DJ Blond:ish for the Underground Dance Single.

In a different register, the group Constantinople, also from Montreal, received the prize for best classical small ensemble album. The Montreal Classical Orchestra, conducted by Jacques Lacombe, won in the category of best classical album by a large ensemble.

Adopted Montrealer Nicole Lizée, who was already part of the Montreal indie rock group The Besnard Lakes, won the Juno for classical music composition.

The music video of the year was awarded to Demons by Allison Russell, directed by fellow Montrealer Ethan Tobman.

Quebec graphic designers were also in the spotlight since the album Riopelle symphonique-Montreal Symphony Orchestra won the Album Graphics of the Year award.
